How to cut the crease

How to Cut the Crease

  1. Make a dinner reservation for 7:30.

  2. Pour yourself a glass of whatever at around 6 and do your foundation and blush.

  3. Steel yourself.

  4. Prime the lid with an eyeshadow primer and, using a shader brush, apply a shadow about a shade lighter than your foundation all over the lid.

  5. Using a fluffy brush, lightly apply a neutral shadow about a shade darker than your foundation just above the crease of the eyelid. If you have monolids, then you might need to experiment with placement.

  6. Using an angled brush and a deep brown eyeshadow, draw a line in the center of where you placed the neutral shade, from roughly the inner edge of the iris to the outer corner of the eye.

  7. Lightly blend the line using “windshield wiper” motions with the fluffy brush.

  8. Repeat with the other eye.

  9. Realize they’re totally uneven. It’s now 6:45. You’re not even dressed yet.

  10. Throw on some eyeliner and mascara. Briefly contemplate the innate ephemerality of the universe.

Biography

Kae Lorentz

She/Her or They/Them

Written by Kat Gordon

Kae Lorentz, commonly known as Kitty, is the 2022 cohort’s Gen-Z representative, and she doesn’t realize how cool she actually is. When not kindly translating pop culture and meme culture to her less internet-savvy peers, she is busy writing papers for graduate school.
Her work explores the crafts of glamour and wrestling through the lenses of class and gender. Her passion for these topics comes through unabashedly in her writing. Her sly sarcasm and unexpected insights combine with a deep historical knowledge of glamour and wrestling to make her written work captivating. Kae was born a second-generation Floridian. She lives in a city and finds it an odd experience after a childhood of romping in the swamps with her biologist mother. In her limited spare time, Kae enjoys playing video games and drinking cocktails while watching old movies. She does not enjoy crowds although she does perform spoken word poetry in public spaces. As result of an exploding Pyrex, Kae has recently learned to take apart her stove, a skill that is sure to come in handy someday. If you are looking for her and she’s not home, I’d check the swamps.
